S1E2: How I Do it All

Homeschool mom’s wear a lot of hats and trying to get everything done is exhausting and sometimes just entirely out of reach. One of the most common questions I get asked is “How do you do it all?” I realized that people see pictures and videos of us homeschooling, they see my very obvious presence online and they know I am busy with five little kids. This is strong on my heart because I know there are a lot of you who are feeling like failures. Who feel like they aren’t doing enough, or not doing it well, or maybe you just aren’t cut out for this. And I wish I could bring you into my chaos on one of my crazy days: with my no-makeup face and vampire black circles under my eyes. With my laundry piles all over the house in various stages of completion and my kids running crazy. I wish I could have you over and be totally transparent so you could see that I do NOT do it all all the time! That real life is messy and chaotic and it’s okay!

Debunking the myth of “110%”

Take your day and divide it up, leave time for sleep and eating and then add in the time you need for each aspect of your life. Cleaning your house, cooking meals, home baking, laundry, investing in your marriage, taking care of yourself, work (if applicable) and homeschooling your kids. To do all those things 100% how much time would you need? Can you fit it all in? In most cases I would say NO WAY! In this week’s podcast I address the supermom mentality and (hopefully) make you feel a little bit better on those days that you just feel like you are getting by by the skin of your teeth. You’ve got this mom!

What are your biggest challenges with homeschooling?

  1. Thank you!!! Thank you so much! I needed to hear this so much today. This made me cry a little while I listened to it. I really feel like God wanted me to hear this. I need to know that’s it’s ok if I don’t get EVERYTHING done every day.. some days I feel like such a failure. And people ask me all the time how do you do it? Most days I feel like I’m not doing a good job.. but your words today were so encouraging.. thank you so much!! ❤️

    • Aw Kari, I totally understand and what an honor for God to use me at just that perfect timing, that is just like Him hey? We ALL feel like failures at times. And I think sometimes that is a good thing, sometimes that is great motivation and sometimes we have been feeling sorry for ourselves or just not motivated and aren’t getting stuff done. That being said, this has been a season for me as well of working my butt off, and it is never enough. So for those of us in that season, this is for all of us. Permission to BREATHE today! Permission to take some time for ourselves. And a reminder that we are HOMEschooling, we don’t have to mimic school and our kids are going to be okay! Blessings my friend! More encouragement to come!

  2. Such a great reminder!!!! I struggle with feeling like a failure a lot. Thank you Pinterest and Facebook. Lol
    Thank you for sharing!!

  3. This was good, thanks! I always say that my job as mom /wife/homeschooler /homemaker /bookkeeper is just an elaborate triage of priorities. ?
It was encouraging to hear another mom in the trenches agree, but put it so well. I’ve been forgetting that I don’t have to do it all every day, so this day a good reminder. ☺️

  4. Thank you for this! I really love the reminder that kids don’t need 6 hours of school a day. What a great podcast!
