I have heard a lot of controversy over Sarah Young’s “Jesus Calling” book so when I saw “Jesus Today” (Devotions for Kids) I was intrigued. This is a 150 day devotional for children that essentially takes scripture, paraphrases it for little minds, and writes it as a letter to them from God. Whenever something is taking the form of God’s voice, I am VERY cautious and take the time to ensure it is accurate, especially when I am using it as a teaching tool for my children! Before each day I read it over and compared scriptures and content to sure they lined up. At this point I haven’t found anything conflicting or grandiose and I am loving the approach! How Jesus Today Brings the Bible to Life!
As I pulled out this bright blue book for the first time, my children were a little ho hum about the whole thing. I mean, here we go again mom, another devotional. But when I started reading it to them, the glazed look in their eyes went away, they sat a little straighter, their heads started turning in my direction, they perked right up. You see, Jesus Today is NOT just a regular devotions for kids… it is taking scripture and personalizing it for your child. They heard God’s words for the first time directed at them, and the results are amazing! We are loving this devotional, we haven’t made it more than a few weeks in, so I’ll update you if we find anything that concerns me. But so far, my kids can’t wait to do devotions as a family and we are all being encouraged and inspired in our walk with God.
