#50 The Rabbit Trail Episode

Sometimes I feel like my brain is just not organized enough for what I do. There are so many thoughts jumbling around in my head it is difficult to focus on just one thing… for any length of time. After staring at my computer for a good 15 minutes going over ideas for this weeks episode, I pray about it and decided to just start with no agenda. This episode is affectionately named the Rabbit Trail episode.

I kind of talk about anything and everything that is on my mind: from bedtime battles to parenting goals to judgement and loneliness to homeschool schedules and routines and finally my vision for how we will blend unschooling together with Charlotte Mason and also some workbooks (so mommy doesn’t go insane).

It’s not focused, it’s a conversation. A glimpse inside my busy, wild, fast-paced thought processes and I hope that it inspires you, helps you feel a little less alone, and maybe gives you some ideas in the process.

  1. I love your rabbit trails. It’s real life. You are always an encouragement to me. I appreciate your passion for what you do. I guess I would also call myself a hot mess mom. lol I am also in transition with what to do for school. Leaning more toward the “unschooling” ish, reading and learning from books, eclectic style. Piece by piece. As God gives it to me. Don’t let the critics get to you. You work for an audience of one. Keep Him as your focus and you’ll do great. Thank you for this ministry. You are appreciated.

P.S. First year getting build your bundle. Thankful for all your suggestions and sneak peaks. I look forward to digging in, especially your course for time management.

  2. Loved this episode! Thanks for helping me feel normal about my rabbit trail brain!? It is so refreshing to hear the realness of this. Bedtime is my weakness, wanna see mama have a melt down (crying, hiding, feeling like I’m going crazy) come to my house at bedtime lol. I do better some nights than others but it is what it is. I am going to be starting homeschooling both kiddos next year and have found so so so so much encouragement from you! I love your podcast and emails. I used to be on fb but not anymore so I have really enjoyed hearing from you on your podcast. You make me laugh out loud a lot because I can relate to a lot of things you say and are thinking. I am a hot mess mom too but really do try my best. I will never be the mom with the perfect house, or kids, or life and you help me feel 100% ok with that, so thank you! You are a huge blessing for doing what God has called you to do. I was a homeschool kiddo myself and was doubting if homeschooling was what I was really being called to do but I know now it is 100% for sure what I need to be doing next year. Thanks for all your encouragement and wisdom and literally everything you do to help all of us other mama’s!! I have been so inspired and gotten so many ideas for next year through everything that you share! I am excited and nervous but will be taking it one day and one step at a time and spending a LOT of time in prayer!?One of the first podcast I listened to from your channel my son heard me laughing so he came in to listen and wanted to see what was making me laugh so hard and after a few minutes he said very matter of factly “ok Mom I’ll homeschool if I can go to that lady’s house and she can teach me.” I laughed so hard, and told him “sorry kiddo it doesn’t work like that!” Just wanted to share and thought you’d get a kick out of that!!?

  3. I am a hot mess momma too! I smiled many times listening to this episode…I have 4 littles and am seeking God’s face every day to figure out what this season of life should look like. Making some changes this upcoming year for our homeschooling and am excited to see how life is breathed into each day as we make those changes. Thanks for the encouragement and keep up the good work!

  4. I just listened to this and oh my goodness you are so encouraging and girl you are not alone. I feel like typi we’re describing my life. Thank you for being so honest about how your life and how you feel. I live on a college campus with other families and people all around and I feel alone all the time. I too feel judged all the time for being a “hot mess.” But I feel that I need to raise my kids in the Lord and how can I do that if they are away for 6 hours a day. I also had no idea what unschooling was until you described it. I am like that is my life. I just let my kids play by themselves most of the time. We even just got rid of our TV to encourage more bonding time and imaginary play time. But do we still use iPads for stuff. Including snack time shows. I love my kids but honestly I cant stand them sometimes. I hope I am not alone in that. This podcast just hit home for me and ii was tearing up during it too, in a good way. Now I feel like I am not alone, and that there are times when I just need to get stuff done and my kids go and play and do their own thing. We are doing that right now. I am working on binding laminating and setting up activity books that I got from Build Your Bundle. :). Thank you for everything you do. I am so glad I stumbled upon your YouTube channel.
    In Christ,
